My Future Classroom
I have been thinking a lot about my future classroom. I have not really had a class that talked a lot about it but as a sub I walk into another person's classroom and I make judgments. Not to be mean or rude but to allow me to understand what would and would not work for me. I feel that this opportunity allows me to figure things out better now then half way through my first year and find myself frustrated that my room is driving my crazy.
In one of our classes my teacher mention how she always like to have fresh cut flower on her desk, it was just something she always did. And although she may never hear any students thoughts are on the flower someone has noticed. Some student loved walking by and always see those flowers and remember it years to come. That feel is one that I want to portray in my own classroom.
This past winter on a cold January day I walked into a classroom where I was going to take over a 1st grade classroom for half a day. When I walk in the room it was warm and happy. The teacher had music quietly playing in the background while the students worked in there journals. It was calm and peaceful and one of the best setup classrooms I had ever been in. I wanted to be there with the kids learning and reading in what seemed to be the most safe environment I had ever seen. If you are wondering I did take pictures of the whole room and saved them. Including her idea on how the kids could earn brownie points, seriously a very create calm room.
